An electric sweeper must adhere to applicable standards and regulations, including international requirements for electrical systems, safety, and environmental compatibility. Meeting these standards ensures not only the user’s safety but also the ability to gain global approval for the machine.
The foundation of this achievement lies in a well-conceived design and concept. Our engineers focus not only on maximizing the machine’s efficiency but also on incorporating safety-critical aspects from the very beginning.
Reliability and Safety
At the core of every electric sweeper are its high-voltage (HV) components. Selecting the right components and assemblies is critical, as these systems must function efficiently while meeting stringent safety requirements, such as protection against overheating and short circuits. This meticulous selection process ensures the machine operates safely and reliably.
As part of the approval process, the entire HV system must comply with ECE-R100 standards. These standardized tests, established by the United Nations, subject the system to a series of rigorous evaluations, including:
- Thermal shock and cycle testing
- Vibration testing
- Mechanical integrity assessments
- Fire resistance tests
- External short-circuit protection
- Overcharge protection
- Excessive discharge prevention
- Overheating protection
- Overcurrent protection
Additionally, the Battery Management System (BMS) of the Schmidt eCleango 550 has undergone extensive testing. Load tests are particularly critical, ensuring the HV system’s longevity and reliability.
Noise Emissions
Electric sweepers offer significant advantages beyond reduced CO₂ emissions, including drastically lower noise levels for both the driver and the surrounding environment. Instead of the humming of a diesel engine, all the driver hears is the gentle sweeping of the hardworking brushes. And pedestrians too, are less likely to notice the machine due to its quiet operation.
To quantify these improvements, complex sound pressure measurements are conducted. These tests assess the sound pressure level inside the driver’s cab and the sound power emitted outside the machine. The results are impressive: The soundproofed cab of the eCleango 550 provides drivers with a quiet and comfortable workplace.
