From terminal to terminal: One machine, sweeping for 1.5 billion passengers per year

At airports around the world, countless teams work tirelessly to ensure safe and reliable departures and landings every day. Thorough planning and preparation are crucial to successfully manage the often unpredictable situations at airports. Our Schmidt AS 990 high-performance sweepers also play a decisive role in this process. Since 2002, more than 500 of these machines have been manufactured and delivered to our partners and customers worldwide. This impressive number has inspired us to conduct a brief thought experiment.

Let's assume that half of these 500 machines are used at passenger airports and that bigger airports with an annual passenger volume of around 50 million use up to eight high-performance sweepers every day. In other words, a single machine ensures that 6.25 million passengers can take off and land safely every year. Projected across all delivered machines, the figure reaches 1.5 billion passengers per year.

Of course, this is a bit of a gimmick and a rough estimate. Nevertheless, the figure shows impressively how many passengers can rely on our AS 990 and the operations teams at the airports. So next time you are taking off or landing, look out of the window and ask yourself who and what has been on duty to ensure a safe flight.
