Winterberg, the highest town in North Rhine-Westphalia, is a year-round tourist hotspot. While it attracts many visitors during winter, it's also a popular destination in the summer. Consequently, the town’s municipality faces the dual challenge of maintaining both green spaces and tourism infrastructure all year round. This challenge was tackled with the promising combination of the Schmidt Flexigo 150 and the newly developed flail mower power arm system.
The Flexigo 150 is well-known for its maneuverability and versatility. It easily navigates narrow alleyways, sidewalks, and pedestrian zones, and can be equipped with various attachments for different tasks. Previously used primarily as a sweeper, the Flexigo 150 has also proven itself as an effective carrier for front mowers, watering arms, and snow-clearing equipment. With its new attachment—a flail mower—it’s now set to provide even more support for green space maintenance.
Long-Term Test Successfully Completed
The long-term test, completed in August, produced impressive results. The combination of the Flexigo 150 and the flail mower proved to be robust, reliable, and highly user-friendly. Most notably, the easy assembly and safe driving behavior received enthusiastic feedback. Thanks to its articulated steering and small turning radius, the mower was able to operate even in tight spaces. The vehicle’s stability and large outreach allowed it to mow up to two lanes without difficulty. Additionally, the Flexigo can quickly switch to other attachments, such as a hedge trimmer, making it ideal for tasks like light wood maintenance, easily handling branches up to 40 mm thick.
The Flexigo 150’s user interface was also optimized for this new application. By integrating the controls into the armrest, operational complexity was reduced, making it more intuitive and simpler to use. This results in less training time and faster operational readiness for the staff—a major benefit in a busy tourist town like Winterberg.
A Year-Round Solution
With the Flexigo 150 and the new flail mower power arm system, Winterberg now has a complete vehicle solution that’s operational year-round. Whether it's maintaining cycle paths and green spaces in the summer or clearing snow in the winter, the Flexigo 150 is always up to the task. Alexander Vonnahme, head of the Winterberg municipal depot, is convinced: “Our tasks are varied, and we need vehicles that can keep up with us. The Flexigo 150 has exceeded all expectations.”
The Schmidt Flexigo 150, in combination with the new flail mower, has proven its worth in long-term tests and could soon be adopted by other towns and cities. With its flexibility and user-friendliness, it provides exactly what modern municipalities need: a reliable, easy-to-operate solution for year-round use.
