The company moved to its present-day location of Lindenwood, Illinois in 1939, occupying a blacksmith shop just north of its present-day plant. For the next 23 years, their primary product was the Swenson Chain Drive Spreader, but when hydraulic drive systems started to appear on trucks in the early 60’s, Swenson followed the technology and introduced their first hydraulic spreader as well. Over the next few years, several new spreader models were launched, with Eskil Swenson holding many of the original patents. Prior to 1967, the controls in all trucks were manually operated, but that changed when the concept of controlled spreading was introduced by Swenson. This implementation has saved millions of tons of salt and granular materials during the winter season and has led to cleaner highways and waterways.
In September of 2015, Swenson Products joined the Aebi Schmidt Group, a global leader in intelligent solutions for customers who care for clean and safe infrastructure and cultivate challenging grounds headquartered in Europe. The unique variety of the group's range of products comprises own vehicles as well as innovative attachable and demountable devices for individual vehicle equipment. Swenson fits into the company perfectly with their range of spreaders and bodies, which can be utilized for both summer and winter maintenance, focused primarily on the industrial, commercial, and airport sectors.
