How to build a powerhouse that clears 10,000 tonnes of snow per hour

In the assembly workshop in Tiefenhäusern, not far from our plant in St. Blasien, Germany, our specialists are working with high pressure and precision on two high-performance snow blowers for the Norwegian state railway company Bane NOR. Each of these machines weighs over 80 tonnes and generates over 2,000 horsepower. We recently had the honour of welcoming the Norwegian project team and accompanied them with our camera.

Ensuring safe and reliable travel for both people and machines during winter is at the core of the Aebi Schmidt Group's mission. With a heritage dating back to the 19th century, the Beilhack brand, which joined the Group in 2005, brings its specialized expertise in snow clearing for railway tracks, further strengthening our capabilities in winter maintenance.

The first of the two new high-performance snow blowers of the Schmidt Beilhack HB 1100S series will be completed in autumn. Following completion, it will undergo testing on the Norwegian railway network before being put into operation. During the visit, Alexander Aronsen, Project Manager at Bane NOR, highlighted the complexity of these snow blowers and the rigorous demands they must meet across various parameters. Watch the video to discover what impressed Alexander and learn about the crucial criteria essential for the success of such a project.
