Power infrastructure in challenging terrain
BKW Power Grid operates an extensive power grid in Switzerland, which often runs through challenging terrain. To be able to carry out work in these areas safely and efficiently, BKW relies on the Aebi VT 470 Vario. The transporter excels where conventional vehicles reach their limits – for example, when renewing wooden power poles in open fields in the Jura. Emilien Voisard, construction supervisor at BKW Delémont, describes the challenge: ‘We need a vehicle to reach terrain that is difficult to access, such as fields or pastures, because the power lines mainly run through such areas. The vehicle enables us to drive off-road, even on steep slopes, and that is what we were looking for.’
Customised configuration and close cooperation
The Aebi VT 470 Vario was individually designed in close cooperation with our partner to meet BKW's specific requirements. The transporter was equipped with a Palfinger crane to ensure safe replacement of wooden power poles or power transformers. Cederic Stoll, Procurement Manager Direct at BKW, explains the decision in favour of Aebi: In the end, we decided on Aebi because their vehicle was technically convincing. It was the interplay between payload, total weight and motorisation. In addition, we knew from previous projects that we have a reliable partner in Aebi. Our collaboration was practical and uncomplicated – a comprehensive, all-round package.'
Optimal solution for maximum efficiency
For Aebi Schmidt, close alignment with the customer was of great importance in this project. Mathias Leubler, Sales Manager for Aebi Agricultural and Municipal Technology, explains: ’We go through such projects step by step with the customer. This enables us to implement the best possible solution together with our partner – in this case Calag – and take advantage of any potential for improvement.’ The result is a vehicle that BKW can use specifically where maximum efficiency is required: on steep terrain, in difficult ground conditions, with high load capacity and safe handling.
An Aebi transporter is also convincing far away from mountain agriculture. Thanks to its versatility, it can be individually adapted to the requirements of power companies, special construction companies, ski resorts or municipal service providers.
