When it comes to airport multi-tasking snow removal, the MB5 is the industry standout. This versatile custom cab forward single unit chassis pushes a heavy duty, front mounted plow and finishes airport clean-up with a mid-mounted broom equipped with forced air blowers between the axles. The MB5 offers superior maneuverability with a remarkably small turning circles.

Clearing process

The MB5 combines three steps into one single operation and brings your runway quickly back to concrete. Whereas the snow plow clears the majority of the snow to the side, the brush clears the remaining snow and slush while the air blower unit generates a powerful air flow to remove any remaining moisture.

Snow plow

Clean and aggressive clearance is achieved with the MB P5000 Series airport snow plows. These are designed for fast snow clearance at airports and offer outstanding performance with optional straight or flared configurations.

Sweeping unit

The hydraulically-driven brush is mounted to a supporting frame and suspended via a parallelogram lifting system, so that it rests on the surface regardless of vehicle movement and uneven ground. The brush’s automatic and stepless sweeping pattern adjustment is carried out hydraulically and determined by the height adjustment of twin castors. During operation, the brush speed is adjusted automatically to suit the driving speed and shown on the control panel’s display. A long brush service life is possible – thanks to auto-pattern brush adjustment system. Supported by four Vertical raising caster struts provide vertical lift broom head for consistent deflector angle as broom wears. Integral broom hood shaker to remove accumulated snow off the broom. The brush is available in lengths of 18 ft, 20 ft or 22 ft.

Blower unit

The blower unit of the MB5 is located directly behind the sweeping unit. The blower removes any remaining water and slush from the clearing area at air speeds up to 410 mph, ensuring optimum friction values and better braking action on runways. The blower is driven hydraulically by the auxiliary engine via a variable displacement pump.

Drive

The MB5 is driven be two 496 HP electronic turbocharged T4F EPA emission certified diesel engines. One drive engine is utilized to power the ground drive system paired with Allison RDS 4000, 6 speed transmission for unmated reliability and performance. The second 496 hp diesel engine is utilized to hydraulically power the broom and air blowers.

Motion control

State-of-the-art control technology is an important step in the safe and efficient clearing of airport operation areas. Logical and intuitive menu navigation and automatically controlled processes help to support drivers by ensuring that concentration remains focused on the clearing operation. The display indicates the operating hours engine speed, brush revolution speed and blower performance. The display also provides a comprehensive diagnostics.

Service concept

Preventive maintenance is made simple with accessible filters and fluid drains. Additionally, the optional auto-lube keep your pivot points greased and ready for the next snow event.
