Electric sweeping under extreme loads - does it work?

There are days when a depot is particularly challenged - the carnival and the Chienbäsen parade in Liestal, Switzerland, are definitely among them. This year, the depot decided to test the electric sweepers eSwingo 200+ and eCleango 550 from Schmidt under these extreme conditions.

A state of emergency for the depot: dirt, time pressure and long operations

During carnival, the Liestal depot is challenged like never before: confetti, rubbish and dirt have to be removed in a short space of time. Two parades in one day mean long deployment times, interrupted by phases in which the cantonal roads have to be cleared at short notice. "During the parade, there are always sections of the cantonal roads that need to be cleared. This is the case in the afternoon, and after the Chienbesen parade we have to clean and clear all the roads," says Jörg Rippstein, Head of Traffic Areas at the City of Liestal.

More relaxed and manoeuvrable than expected - experiences from the field

The low noise level of the eCleango 550 in and around the vehicle impressed the drivers. "It is incredibly quiet in the interior," says Jörg Rippstein. The manoeuvrability was also impressive - especially in the narrow streets of Liestal's old town.

The compact design of the eSwingo 200+ was another advantage. Yannick Wolf, deputy head of the traffic areas department, praised the driving behaviour of the machine: "Thanks to the electric drive, it has a completely different driving behaviour compared to our other machines. It was really fun and I would love to drive the eSwingo again."

Sustainable and efficient - even at peak loads

The electric sweepers not only worked reliably under extreme conditions, but also helped to relieve the strain on employees. The relaxed driving experience was particularly appreciated - an advantage during long operations under time pressure.
The tests of the electric sweepers in Liestal have shown that these sustainable technologies not only withstand everyday use, but also peak loads.
